Selbyville Dive Team responds to assist Station 84-Millville - Quillen Point, Ocean View
Monday, October 27, 2008

On Monday October 27th, the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company Dive Team was requested to respond to the Quillen Point area of Cedar Neck Road to assist Station 84-Millville Volunteer Fire Department with a vehicle overboard. Initial responding personnel from Station 84 gave a report of a van type vehicle in the water approximately 100 feet from the boat ramp. Only the windows were in line of sight, and there were no occupants visible. Utility 88-12 and the Dive Trailer were on the initial response, with 3 divers (Lt. Hensler, EMS Captain Foxwell, and FF Hudson) on board. Following was Rescue 88 (Chief Eckman and crew of 7) with three additional divers ( Chief Eckman, Chief Engineer Latchum, and Dive Captain West) on board. 84 Command was Lieutenant Doug Scott, and the dive Operations Officer was FF/PM D. Baker of OCFD. Two divers from SVFC entered the water to search the vehicle and surrounding area for possible occupants/victims, two SVFC divers remained as back-up, and one MVFC diver along with members of OCFD Dive Team were in reserve. The search revealed no victims, and divers assisted the wrecker crew with vehicle removal. DSP, DNREC, and USCG were on scene.
